LAYING UP OF THE OLD COLOURS OF THE FIRST FUSILIERS – WARNING ORDER
The 1st Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will lay up its former Colours on Thursday 5th May 2016 at the Tower of London beginning at 1100 hrs. This is the last time that these Colours will ever be carried on a parade.
A guard of honour from the First Battalion will conduct a short parade in the environs of the Tower which will then be followed by a service of dedication in the Chapel Royal, St Peter ad Vincula where the old Colours will subsequently be on display. Following the service there will be a buffet lunch provided in RHQ. The event should conclude by 1330hrs.
The capacity of the Chapel Royal is limited to 130 people. It is intended to keep invited VIP guests to a minimum so there are 50 places available to any serving or former member of the Regiment who wishes to apply for tickets. They will be issued on a first come first served basis.
Those wishing to attend should apply for tickets direct to RHQ at the following email address: INFHQ-QUEENS-RRF-ChfClk@mod.uk
The closing date for applications is Friday 29 April 2016. Guests who wish to remain for the buffet lunch should note that there will be a cost for attending the buffet lunch (approx. £10). A cash bar will be available. Payment can be made on the day.

ONLINE PRI SHOP –– ‘FUSILIERS DIRECT’
On April 14th 2016 AMMO Company will officially open the online Regimental PRI shop called FUSILIERS DIRECT.
FUSILIERS DIRECT will replace the need for Battalions and sub-units to run their own PRI shops. Units can continue to run PRI shops, but should they choose to do so then AMMO Company is to be their sole point of contact for all purchases. Please note that it will be the only official distributor of Fusilier uniforms and accessories and Regimental items in general.
AMMO is based in Birmingham and is a leading MoD contractor and supplier of uniforms and accessories. AMMO Company will run FUSILIERS DIRECT on the day-to-day basis, as they already do for other regiments but will be managed by a joint AMMO and RHQ RRF management team who will make sure that what is on offer is relevant to all Fusiliers, of all ranks. Units and personnel will also have the opportunity to recommend product lines and produce ideas for completely new products. The bottom line is that FUSILIERS DIRECT is owned and directed by us, the Regiment and enabled by AMMO Company.
Importantly, the profit share of sales will be redirected by RHQ back to units and organisations on a ‘need’ basis similar to how the Fusilier Fund currently operates.
Regimentally we have established a partnership with AMMO Company making FUSILIERS DIRECT the single online PRI shop and therefore AMMO Company are the accepted the sole distributor for PRI type items for the Regiment.
For the Battalions, Association Branches, ACF and CCF detachments etc there is the ability to bulk purchase items at a considerably reduced price than the individual item price quoted. Please contact FUSILIERS DIRECT for prices.

SPECIAL ORDER OF THE DAY
On Monday 15 February 2016, Brigadier (Retd) I R Liles OBE handed over the post of Regimental Secretary to Colonel (Retd) J W Denny MBE.
Brigadier Ian Liles assumed the role of Regimental Secretary in 2009 after an Army career of 36 years. In his time as Regimental Secretary, he has guided the Regiment through the dark days of the Op HERRICK casualties, the tragic murder of Fusilier Rigby and the removal of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers from the Order of Battle, as well as many other challenges.
Brigadier Ian was commissioned into 3rd Fusiliers in 1976, having spent 3 years in the ranks with the First Battalion. Whilst with the 3rd Battalion he served in the UK, Northern Ireland, and Germany and held the appointment of Intelligence Officer and Adjutant. He commanded A Company in 2nd Fusiliers before assuming his SO2 appointment as the Tasking and Coordination Group Liaison Officer to 3 Brigade in Armagh. For this tour he was awarded a MBE.
On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel he spent 8 months in Bosnia as MA to COS UNPROFOR. Between 1995-97 he commanded 7 R IRISH in Belfast for which he was awarded an OBE. Following this he served as SO1 Plans in HQ ARRC, where he saw service in Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Serbia. Promoted to Colonel, he served as Deputy Commander 39 Infantry Brigade, Assistant Chief of Staff HQ British Forces Cyprus and Chief of Staff 5th Division. He also spent 7 months in Afghanistan as Director Strategic Plans to the US Corps HQ in Kabul. On promotion to Brigadier he commanded the Multi-National Brigade in Bosnia before assuming the appointment of Defence Attaché in Saudi Arabia.
Married for 34 years to Carol they have a daughter Victoria, who is a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF stationed at RAF Marham. He is also the proud grandfather to two girls; Isobel and Darcy.
The Colonel of the Regiment has added; ‘Ian has been a loyal and dedicated Fusilier for over 40 years. In his last posting he steered the Regiment through some of the greatest challenges it has faced in its 48 year history. His leadership has been inspirational. Few will know quite how much he has done for us; all of us will have been touched by his sense of humour, his compassion and his hands on, no nonsense style. On behalf of the Regiment I would like to formally express my gratitude and wish him and Carol all the very best for a well-earned rest.’

ONLINE PRI SHOP – AMMO COMPANY – ‘FUSILIERS DIRECT’
In early 2016 AMMO Company will open an online Regimental PRI shop and be the only official distributor of Fusilier uniforms and accessories and Regimental items in general. The site will be called FUSILIERS DIRECT and will, in effect, replace the need for Battalions and sub-units to run their own PRI shops which, over the years and with much tauter establishments, have become an administrative burden. This does not mean that units cannot continue to run PRI shops, but should they choose to do so then AMMO Company is to be their point of contact for all purchases. That said, however, one of the aims of this partnership is to negate the need to run a PRI shop and to purchase all products online (as the majority of us now do anyway).
AMMO is based in Birmingham and is a leading MoD contractor and supplier of uniforms and accessories. They supplied our great-great-great grandparents with metal cap badges over 150 years ago. They are no strangers to the military, its customs and its culture.
The profit share of sales will be redirected by RHQ back to units and organisations on a ‘need’ basis similar to how the Fusilier Fund operates.
Further details will be published later in the year. At this stage I want everyone to understand the intent to establish a single online PRI shop and for AMMO Company to be accepted as the sole distributor for PRI type items for the Regiment. AHQs are to brief all affiliated Cadet units and our Museums and while they cannot be directed to use AMMO Company the cost effective benefits of a single supplier are obvious. Similarly, the Association is to be encouraged to embrace FUSILIERS DIRECT and AMMO Company as being a partner of the Fusilier family and to support the new system accordingly.
